Much has been written about the recent Rob Bell book, “Love Wins.” We don’t need to go into detail concerning it since others have done so much more eloquently – and biblically – than we could here.
A family member had obtained a free copy of the book (perish the thought of paying for such) and had passed it on to me so I could read it for myself. I did so, keeping James 1:2-3 in mind the entire time and then passed on the blessing(!!) to a friend at IRBC. This friend, when I asked about her reaction yesterday, first expressed her infuriation at a) the content and b) the literary “style,” if one could call it that.
Her comment, it seems, is very apropos – if one is unfamiliar with the work of the late MC Escher, Escher’s web site is worth examining to see the style in question. Her husband chimed in and said, “Escher did use geometry.” See for yourself.

Escher is neat, but after a while I get a headache. I haven’t read Love Wins and don’t plan to, but it gives me a headache just thinking about it.
A bad Escher painting? Her husband is right, there is no bad Escher painting. I’ve not read it, I value time too much to waste it. Okay, so I just caught myself… I’d rather waste it on other things.
Years ago, a Rick Warren fanatic pushed a copy of The Purpose Driven Life into my chest, telling me “it will CHANGE your life!”. It did. I read it, wept, and dug into the Bible and church history – coming to see the cancer in the church and the truth of Reformed Theology. My wife read it and remarked that Warren was a horrible author and doubtful that he was saved.
Thanks for stopping by.
If you’d like to see an extreme example of Mr. Warren’s amazingly bad biblical exegesis, see this essay he wrote several years ago: http://www.christianpost.com/news/learn-to-laugh-28434/.
Boggles the mind. But it’s really nothing more than many pastors do on a weekly basis, right?
God Bless.
Jeff,
Nothing Rick Warren says or does surprises me, as the broad, wide road is full of disciples of Robert Schuler. If he repents and starts proclaiming the gospel of the biblical Jesus, I may have a heart attack. It’s disturbing how many professing Christians take such false teachers seriously. I write this from the swamp known as Houston – which is home to Kerry Shook and Joel Osteen. sigh
